Home And School Visitors


Program Description

Home & School Visitors help enforce the state of Pennsylvania School Attendance Code by visiting the homes of students who have accumulated unlawful absences.  Their responsibilities include: working closely with attendance secretaries to determine their daily schedule for making home visits, meet with student’s, and parents in school and in their homes to discuss truancy issues, transport students to school when necessary, work with tardy students, and make SAP referrals.  Their responsibility also includes attending truancy hearings at the court of Magisterial Justice’s throughout the district.  Mr. Harris, the Lead Home & School Visitor is the only person who authorizes fines, and represents the district at all District Hearings.  Home & School Visitors also work collaboratively with district personnel to service the needs of students.

Bio Information

Jim Harris oversees the Home and School Visitor Program for the Reading School District.  Mr. Harris is a Home & School Visitor who services Reading High School and assists students who are not in compliance with the attendance policy due to academic, family, community and/or peer relationships.  He attends Magisterial Justice’s and Juvenile Court proceedings to represent the Reading School District in truancy cases.

Mr. Singleton performs Home and School Visitor duties, which includes the enforcement of the state of Pennsylvania School Attendance Code by visiting the homes of students who have accumulated unlawful absences. He works closely with attendance secretaries, meets with student’s parents in school and in their homes to discuss truancy issues, work with tardy students, make appropriate SAP referrals, and attends Magisterial Justices court proceedings to represent the Reading School District in truancy cases.
