12th and Marion is an urban elementary school that services grades first through fifth in Reading, Pennsylvania. CURRICULUMOur school encourages a variety of teaching styles and strategies; therefore, classrooms may vary in routines, materials and methods used. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher with questions regarding their educational program. Parental conferences are scheduled in November and April, but we will gladly schedule any additional time for you. Appointments are necessary, because teachers cannot interrupt pupil instructional time to answer questions or discuss student progress. InterimsInterims are issued to students who are experiencing difficulty. This notice allows parents to reinforce any problem areas. Interim forms must be signed and returned to the student’s teacher as soon as possible. Conferences with the teacher are available upon request. (School Office (610)371-5788)
Report CardsFormal report cards containing an evaluation of pupil progress are completed each quarter (nine-week period). Interim Reports are sent home in the middle of each quarter. Report Cards are designed to inform you of your child’s level of instruction, academic progress, growth, desirable habits, and attitudes. The 1st and 3rd report cards (November and April) are distributed at parent conferences. Report Cards will not be distributed to parents who have not attended the conferences. Instructional ProgramsSpecial Education Learning Support (LS) Program – Part-time placement for exceptional students in need of the program. Speech and Language Support - Service available to students in need of the program. English Language Acquisition (ELA) Resource Program Provides language and instruction support for students in need of the program REACH Program Program for exceptional students identified as mentally gifted.
Guidance and Counseling Services The services students actually receive depends upon the recommendations of the teacher involved and/or parent (guardian) requesting services. The main thrust of any classroom guidance activity is to promote good social and emotional development in all children. Intensive counseling services will be referred to an outside agency. BUILDING RULES
1. Students will arrive between 8:30 a.m. - 8:35 a.m. and stand in the assigned line in an orderly manner. Parents, please leave children at the outside door by 8:30 a.m., no earlier. 2. For their safety, students are not permitted on the parking lot. 3. Students will walk in a quiet, orderly manner in the building. 4. Students, accompanied by their teacher, will exit the appropriate door in an orderly manner and they are to go directly home, crossing the streets with the guards. 5. Students meeting brothers, sisters, or parents should have an outside meeting place. Please do not wait in your car and expect the children to go between parked cars or to cross the street to get to you. 6. Zero tolerance for touching - Violent or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. 7. Physical assaults (fighting) will result in a suspension. 8. Toys or other items that are considered “look-alike weapons” (water pistols or cap guns) are not permitted. Pocket knives, karate items, scissors, etc. may not be brought to school. 9. Possession of a weapon will result in a suspension. 10. No electronic equipment, trading cards, beepers, and/or cell phones are allowed. 11. No “poppers” or other incendiary items are allowed. 12. Wearing of roller runners (shoe/skates) is prohibited.
LUNCH CARDS: Lunch cards will be sent home on MONDAY and they must be returned to school by TUESDAY MORNING. After Wednesday morning, parents must take lunch cards to Reading High School Cafeteria before Friday afternoon. The student will have to pack his/her lunch for the following week if the lunch card is not returned. Applications for free and reduced-price lunches are available in the school office. A new application must be filled out every school year.
