Our History

In 1929 construction began on a school envisioned to be the first “modern grade school center” in the city of Reading. The two-story building proudly stands along 13th Street showcasing a beautiful vestibule of Italian marble walls, terrazzo floors, and an ornamental ceiling. A gymnasium, locker rooms, and shower rooms were constructed in 1936 on the Union Street side of the building to advance the physical fitness of all students, additional construction at the same time included a large two story north wing to provide additional classroom space for older students. Most recently this magnificent structure underwent a building construction and retrofitting project. Classrooms, and small group instructional areas, and a dining hall were attached to the center area in 2001. Modernization included a new heating system, and air conditioning.
