A Star Studded Performance By: Ashley Blount, Staff Writer
If you were not tuned in, you missed the basketball game of the year. Not only was the game held in Hot Houston, but it also provided entertainment from the best players in the NBA…. haven't caught on yet, well the 2006 All Star Game was an adventure. From the Celebrity Game, not to mention Chris Brown and Bow Wow played their hearts out, to the Slam Dunk contest was the show to watch. A 5'9" Nate Robinson won the competition after winning by a point to the Philadelphia Sixers, Andre Iguodala. The East vs. The West. The Best vs. The Greatest. The Rookies vs. The Veterans. Starting the show was the famous Destiny's Child who sang the National Anthem, putting on a great performance. The starters for both had unquestionable skills. The East showcased: Allen Iverson, Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, Vince Carter and the one and only Shaq O'Neal. Not only were these guys the starters but also four Detroit Piston players played in this year's game and started the second half together. The West started Kobe Bryant, ex Houston Rocket player, Tracy McGrady, Yoa Ming, Tim Duncan, and Steve Nash. In the beginning of the game both teams gave the crowd a laugh by having a good time with one another, but for a while the game became a no brainier as to who would win. The West took charge by leading by more than twenty points at halftime. But the West did not have an answer when the East came back and were determined to win the game. Like many minds thought, "how did the East win?" The East took home the W for this year's game. Despite Tracy McGrady's great game, scoring over twenty points, Lebron James was the MVP.
