The History of the Jack-O'-Lantern:
   There once was a guy name Stingy Jack.  He was a very tricky person.  He ended up tricking the devil into promising to never take his soul after death. 
   Then one day, Jack died.  He was sent to Heaven, but God would not let him in.  God said, "Jack, you are not allowed into Heaven for you were too mean to people back on Earth."  Go sent him to Hell.  In Hell, the devil kept his promise and did not take his soul. 
   Jack was doomed to walk the Earth forever.  The devil gave Jack fire to use to light way on Earth.  Jack put the fire in a turnip and made a turnip-lantern.  Many years later, the traditional turnip changed to pumpkins for pumpkins were easier to carve.
