The Real World

Discrimination is showing bias or prejudice, making an opinion without knowing facts, towards others.
Racism is being discriminatory or prejudice towards     another due to race.  Whether we want to believe it or not, all that  still exist in the United States.
"Racism may be less visible, but it's no less present," says Stephen Small, an African American studies professor at University of California.
He said this is his speech to students in Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union's Heller Lounge on Friday,          February 18, 2005.
One issue is when one asks about another's race or       ethnicity.
Say my name is Trixie and I'm Caucasian.  I find out that a new girl has moved to school.  Judging by her skin color, she's not white.  So I go ask someone who might know a little more about her, specifically what her ethnicity is.  Why do we ask this question?  Does it really matter, and if it does, why?
The other issue to present is the issue of fighting.  When fights happen at school, it's one race against another.
What are these fights over?  Most would say over        boyfriend or girlfriends.
Well, the trust is that usually they're based off of         different beliefs they each have.  It could even be over something as simple as style of clothing.

Tell us your feelings on this issue.  Is racism a big deal?

Poem of the Week

Indecision:

If I were to open my hand and place it inside your head, would you think of me as the keeper of your thoughts, your dreams, or your soul?

If I could speak to your purity and coax it out of hiding, would you do unto me as I do unto you?

If my eyes could heal the undying wounds of time, would you present to me that which I have all but fought to hold on to?

If the man you see before you cannot trust your word, would you expect him to believe the foul plague spewing from your vocals?

If my heart you relinquished to return to another, would you tell me or leave me to sort amongst the shards of my broken self?

If I, not you, were to clench that which we once had, would I hold on to nothing more than inevitable depression?

And if I were to fall victim to a death to call my own, would you shed a single tear for me?

If you had so much as a drop of credibility, would you throw it away on one such as me?
