Dear Parent/Guardian and Student:

Welcome to Reading High School! This year will be one of excitement and challenge for all of us.  I am very excited for the upcoming school year and am looking forward to RHS continuing its journey toward being the best high school in the state!  We also welcome the 9th grade students back to RHS for the first time since 2010.  We are excited for the possibilities with the Class of 2022!

 Here are some of the highlights from the 2017-2018 school year: 

1. We had 807 graduates this school year. 
2. 75% of our 2018 Graduates are enrolled in Technical School, 2 year or 4 year College or University, or the Armed Forces.
3. We exceeded the necessary growth in Math and Reading for Keystone and made the projected growth for Biology. 

The first day of school is Monday, August 27. Open House will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 6 p.m.  We strongly encourage you to continue to be an active partner in your child’s education by attending this event.  You will have an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, as well as follow their daily schedule.

Please read the back-to-school information carefully. It is designed to help each student begin school in the best way possible.  Special attention should be given to our opening day schedule.  For the first day of school, your child will be attending school at a given time based on their assigned grade.  The schedule is attached for the first day of school.

Meals
Breakfast and lunch will begin on Tuesday, August 28.  Breakfast is served at 7 a.m. in the main cafeteria. To see the menus, visit www.ReadingSD.org/menus.

Dress code expectations
Proper dress will be required upon entering Reading High School. Our goal is to promote a more effective climate for learning and students’ dress must not disrupt the educational process, interfere with the maintenance of a positive teaching and learning climate or compromise reasonable standards of health and decency. This includes removing all hats.

Book bags
Students may use any type of book bag at RHS. They are not required to use mesh or drawstring cinch bags.

Emergency Information
Please provide accurate telephone numbers on all emergency cards.  If your phone number changes throughout the school year, contact the main office at 610-371-5705.

Morning and Afternoon CTC (Vo-Tech) students WILL NOT report to the RM-CTC on the first day of school.

In addition, students will receive their schedules, locker assignments and complete the necessary paperwork in homeroom.
