June 24 Regular Board Meeting | Budget Approved

  • The board approved the 2020-21 Final Budget during its meeting on June 24. The budget totals $309,381,537 and includes no tax increase. The budget also includes no proposed cuts in staff, services or programs. To access the budget, see the document viewer below.

May 20, 2020 Committee of the Whole Meeting

  • The board approved the 2020-21 Proposed Final Budget. The budget totals $308,155,305 and includes no tax increase. The budget also includes no proposed cuts in staff, services or programs. May 18, 2020 Budget Workshop

  • The school board held a budget workshop on Monday, May 18 and discussed the 2020-21 preliminary budget. To view the budget workshop meeting, visit our district YouTube channel at www.YouTube.com/RedKnightTV.

    The preliminary budget totals $308,155,305. Currently, there is a $9.95 million deficit between 2020-21 expenditures and revenue, however, the district has available fund balance to cover the current projected deficit. The preliminary budget does not include a tax increase, and there are no proposed cuts in staff, services or programs. 

    Next Steps:
    1. The school board and district administration will continue to discuss the budget numbers.

    2. The board will vote on the preliminary budget at the May 20 Committee of the Whole meeting. Please note, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all board meetings are being held virtually on their regularly scheduled dates and times. Meetings can be viewed on our district YouTube channel at www.YouTube.com/RedKnightTV.

    Since the Committee of the Whole meeting will include a vote, public comment will be accepted, however, comments may only pertain to the 2020-2021 budget. To register for the public comment portion of the meeting, complete the Public Comment Form, in its entirety, no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May, 20, 2020. 

    3. The board will vote on the final budget on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

Important Dates

  • May 18, 2020

    The school board will have a Budget Workshop at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop will be hosted virtually on the district's YouTube Channel.

Tax Bills

  • If you have questions regarding your tax bill, contact our Tax Office at 484-258-7012 or by email at taxes@readingsd.org.  The Tax Office located at the Administration Building will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    The 2020 school tax amount for the City of Reading property owners is due by December 31, 2020. Beginning January 1, 2021, a 5 percent penalty will be added to the amount owed. Payments are due in full by January 31, 2021.  Any outstanding balances will be turned over to Berks County Tax Claim and will be subject to additional fees. Please make checks payable to Reading School District.
