Program Details
The Summer Weekender Backpack Program (in partnership with Helping Harvest Food Bank) provides participating children with a bag of nourishing yet easy-to-prepare food to sustain them through the weekend. Each Weekender bag contains assorted, shelf-stable meal options such as cereal, pasta, skillet dinners, soup, juice or shelf-stable milk options, and kid-friendly snacks. The Weekender bag does not require refrigeration.
Who is Eligible?
All Reading students are eligible. Children do not need to be present to pick up the Weekender bag.

Distribution Times:
Food bags will be available at your selected location every Thursday, beginning June 23nd, from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M.

Fill out the form once per student. It is not necessary to fill out the form every week; once you enroll in the program, your child is eligible for a Weekender bag every week.

RSD Kindergarten and 1st Grade Bootcamp
Red Knights in Training:
At our Kindergarten and 1st Grade Boot Camp, incoming students will get to explore the classroom and learn what to expect when they start school.
The program is free, and our Red Knights in Training will:- Learn what to expect during a typical in-person school day
- Meet teachers and staff at the school
- Make new friends who will be in Kindergarten and 1st Grade, too
- Complete learning activities to get ready for school
- Most importantly, have fun!

RSD 2022 Live Instruction School (9-12 Grade)
WHO SHOULD ATTEND LIVE INSTRUCTION SUMMER SCHOOL?
Any student in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 during the 2021-22 school year can register for live instruction summer school if they failed 3 or more courses for the year. All instruction will be delivered in person with a live RHS teacher delivering the course content.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
WHEN: June 13th – June 16th
WHERE: Welcome Center (009) at Reading High School.
TIME: 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-3:00pm.
*NOTE: Registration will continue the first week of summer school in the Senior Café (Room 200) from 9am-12pm.
This may or may not last the entire week, depending on enrollment numbers*
SUMMER SCHOOL INFORMATION:DATES: June 21 and runs through August 4 for a total of 27 days.
(No school on Monday, July 4 for the holiday)
SUMMER SCHOOL HOURS: 8:00 am to 11:00 am, Monday thru Thursday
LOCATION: Reading High School 1st and 2nd Floor, Rooms vary depending on schedule.
AVAILABLE COURSES:
Integrated Math I, Integrated Math II, Geometry, American History, World Studies, Earth
Science, English 11, English 12, Phys. Ed., and various electives (Art, Business, FCS). All
grades will be PASS or FAIL. No course will receive a letter grade and/or count
towards GPA.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Students will be expected to attend class daily and on time. Students that are habitually truant from summer school will run the risk of not earning the attempted credits during summer school. If the student will be away on vacation for a prolonged period of time (more than 1 week), we encourage the student to register for the Edgenuity Summer School program being offered by RHS.
**NOTE: Bus Transportation is not provided.**

Reading Public Museum 2022 Discovery Camp
The Reading Public Museum invites students in the Reading School District entering grades 1-5 to attend the Reading Public Museum’s 2022 Summer Discovery Camp sessions!

2022 Community Summer Meals Information

Summer Meal Locations
To ensure our children continue receiving meals through the summer months, our community partners will be offering breakfast and lunch at the following locations listed below.
Free Summer Meal Program Details:
- Children and teens ages 18 and younger eat FREE when they come to a summer meals site. Students with special needs ages 21 and younger can participate.
- Free summer meals will help families save money and stretch their already tight food budgets
- Food served is healthy and follows USDA nutrition guidelines
- Summer meals sites are at fun, safe places for kids and teens to be active and visit with friends
- No application or proof of income needed. You can just bring your child to a summer meals site in your community. Meals must be eaten on site.

This summer, the Reading Recreation Commission will open up fire hydrants throughout the city and turn them into mini-spray parks for kids to enjoy.
Beat the heat beginning on June 22, 2022 from 1-4 PM at the first location: 3rd & Spruce Recreation Center!Special thanks to the Reading Area Water Authority, Reading Police Department, Reading Fire Department, Reading Public Works, Mayor’s Office, Helping Harvest and everyone else who helps to make Wacky Water Wednesday an awesome event for our community!
