First Day of School Schedule
REMINDER: Monday, August 30 is the first day of school for Reading School District students. Below is the first day of school schedule.
Reading High School
11th and 12th Grade
Attend from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
10th Grade
Attend from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
9th Grade
Attend from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
RHS-RKAAs (All Locations)
All Students
9:20 a.m. to 4:05 p.m.
Central Middle School
All Students
8:25 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
Northeast, Northwest, Southwest and Southern Middle Schools
5th and 6th Grade
Attend from 8:25 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. - No breakfast or lunch will be served.
7th and 8th Grade
Attend from 12:25 p.m. to 3:25 p.m. - No breakfast or lunch will be served.Note: Self-Contained Special Education middle school students will attend school all day – from 8:25 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. These students will receive lunch.
Please make sure your child wears a face mask and brings their RSD-issued Chromebook if they have one. They can also bring a clear, labeled water bottle.

Kindergarten
Boys attend with 1 parent/guardian only for orientation

School uniforms are optional for the 2021-22 school year. They are not required.

Per the school board, face masks are required for students, families and staff members on Reading School District property and inside all Reading School District buildings.

School Supplies
School Supplies
Please provide a book bag for your child. Our schools provide other basic supplies for students.
However, some of our middle school and high school classes might require additional supplies, such as a three-ring binder and two-pocket folders. Families would receive that information directly for their child’s teacher(s) during Open House or at the beginning of the school year.
If you would like to purchase basic supplies, we recommend:

How to Enroll in Reading Virtual Academy (RVA) for the 2021-22 School Year
To enroll your child in remote learning at our Reading Virtual Academy for the 2021-22 school year, please contact your child’s school building directly and inform the main office. RVA is available for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. School main offices are open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Please have your child’s full name, grade and student ID available prior to contacting the school.

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrollment
If you know young children in our area who have not yet enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, please encourage their families to attend our Reading School District In-Person Enrollment from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 19 at their child’s elementary school. Face masks are required when visiting a Reading School District building in person.If the families are not able to attend In-Person Enrollment on August 19, please encourage them to contact their child’s school as soon as possible so they can pick up a Reading School District enrollment packet and to schedule an enrollment appointment. Enrollment Forms are also available on the district website at www.readingsd.org/enrollment.
What you'll need for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrollment :- Birth certificate (baptismal certificates and hospital certificates are also accepted)
- Immunization records
- Photo ID of the parent or guardian
- Proof of residency (mortgage, lease or utility bill)
If you do not have one of the following in your name, you must provide us with a notarized proof of residency form upon enrollment. - Any court documentation (Custody Order, Protection From Abuse, etc.)

Mobile Hot Spots Available for Families

Reading School District is partnering with T-Mobile to provide free mobile hot spots to families.
Select families were chosen by their schools for the first round of distribution in mid-July. Those families have been notified by phone and can pick up their hot spots on any of the following dates:

5-7 p.m.

Oakbrook Housing (Park next to the Reading Housing Authority)

Busing Information

Busing information for eligible regular education students was mailed the week of August 16. Families with students who receive special education services will be notified of busing information the week of August 23. We will continue to provide updates.

Act 66 Information
Act 66 Explanation
On June 30, 2021, Governor Wolf signed into law Act 66 of 2021. Act 66 permits students who were enrolled during the 2020-21 school year to repeat their grade level, even if the student met the requirements to be promoted to the next grade level.- Students repeating a grade level
This will include students who were enrolled during the 20-21 SY and would now like to repeat the 2020-21 grade level, unless they graduated. - Students staying an additional year
This is limited to Special Education students who were enrolled in the 2020-21 school year and turned 21 during 2020-21 and Special Education students who turned 21 between the end of the 2020-21 school year to and the beginning of the 2021-22 school year, unless IEP goals and objectives for graduation have been met.
Act 66 Deadline
If interested, families must complete and submit the Act 66 of 2021 Student Grade Level Retainment Notification Form to their child’s school by Thursday, July 15, 2021. Act 66 Forms submitted after the deadline (which was established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education) will be reviewed by Reading School District administrators on a case-by-case basis.
