The Reading School District Board of Directors is committed to finding a student-focused, community-centered leader with integrity, visionary leadership, and strong administrative skills to lead the change that will propel the Reading School District to a new era. This individual will have the ability to be chief administrator to a large, urban school district.

Reading School District, located between Harrisburg and Philadelphia in southeastern Pennsylvania, has 19 schools, including 13 elementary schools, five middle schools and one senior high school. The district also has its own virtual academy (online learning) and shares a career and technology center with a neighboring district. With more than 17,700 students and approximately 2,000 staff members, Reading School District is the fourth largest school district in Pennsylvania and the sixth largest employer in Berks County. It is a Title 1, urban school district located in a high-poverty community, where 93 percent of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and 25 percent of students are English-language learners. We see the impact of poverty and inner-city life in our classrooms every day, yet in spite of that, we have the most dedicated, talented, intelligent and ambitious students you’ll find anywhere in the world.

The District has taken strategic steps to stabilize the financial portfolio and to advance the educational outcomes of students. The Board of Directors has a deep commitment to creating a high-quality program of education and therefore recognize that the selection of a superintendent is one of their most important tasks. All qualified candidates will be given careful consideration. The search process is being coordinated by the Berks County Intermediate Unit
