Are you looking for a fun way to expand your learning this winter? We have you covered! Starting February 1, students in Reading Public Schools will once again have free access to the Reading Public Museum, planetarium, and arboretum during regular Museum hours.
Here’s how to take advantage of these free opportunities:
- Show your Reading school ID to enjoy unlimited access for you and up to two (2) parents/guardians to the art and science collections starting February 1.
- If you do not have a current student ID, you can show identification (such as a Pennsylvania driver’s license) to confirm that you or your parents/guardians reside within the City of Reading.
“We encourage you to visit the Museum frequently and enjoy the treasured art and science collections and learn from the different exhibits,” said Dr. Murray, Superintendent. “All students grades K-12 will receive current school IDs within the next month”
Coming Up
Things will get larger than life at the Reading Public Museum starting February 19 when the Dinosaur Explorer exhibit comes to town. According to the Museum’s event calendar, Dinosaur Explorer showcases the “wildest, wackiest, and most wondrous dinosaurs” to roam the Earth.
An Important Step Forward
The Reading School District administration and School Board are elated that the Berks County Court has required this access, by an order entered on January 14, 2022. The currently contracted Reading Museum Foundation property managers had refused to reinstate free access to Reading School District students, and teachers no longer were able to teach within the museum's classrooms. Free access for students is an important step forward.
