Sara Scheirer · 16th and Haak Teacher
Name:
Sara Scheirer
Position:
3rd grade teacher at 16th and Haak Elementary
I grew up in:
Exeter, Pa.
Family:
Dad (Carlos), Mom (Cheryl), sister (Stephanie), and my pets, Thumper (rabbit), Flynn (cat), Esmerelda (cat), and Jasmine (cat)
Education:
BS in Communication Science and Disorders with minors in Special Education and Human Development & Family Studies from the Pennsylvania State University, and Teaching Certification for Pre-K to 4 from West Chester University
What makes you #RSDproud:
I love being able to be a part of the tight-knit community that you find in the Reading School District. I love being involved with the students in extra-curriculars and in the classroom. I am grateful to be able to work with a great group of educators.
Charity I wish more people knew about:
Penn State Dance MaraTHON. This charity raises money for the Penn State Hershey Children’s medical center. The funds raised go to helping families whose children are diagnosed with cancer so they do not have to pay for anything. I was involved for four years with the charity and was honored to be able to dance in the 46 hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon. The charity has raised over $150 million for the cause!
If I were in the Olympics, I would want to be:
A curler - I think it is a very interesting sport that I would love to learn to play!
What is on your bucket list?:
I have over 100 items on my bucket list. I have crossed some items off like attend a presidential inauguration, climb a mountain, and go parasailing. My #1 item would be to travel to the remains of the Titanic.
If I had a time machine:
I would travel back in time. I would love to learn from my past family members and explore all of the time periods that I love learning about!
If I could live anywhere for a year, I would live in:
Seville, Spain -- my grandmother’s side of the family lives there. It is a beautiful city filled with a lot of culture. I would love to live there and be able to travel throughout Spain and Europe.
Keep shining, Sara! 😎
