I live with my husband, Aj, and our LOUD family! We have four kids: Andrew is 13, Trey is 6, Zoey is 5, and our baby boy, Maverick, is 2! We also have two dogs, Kane and Hula, that take up more room in our house and our hearts than we'd like to admit!
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pa (IUP)
Master’s degree in reading from Walden University
Educational Leadership Certification from Cairn University
What makes you #RSDproud?
The students and the staff. It doesn't matter what the outside world thinks of Reading, we know we are strong, smart and can achieve anything! I truly believe that being a part of a strong family is the most important thing and the Red Knight Family has a different bond that you don't understand until you're here!
Do you have a favorite charity you wish more people knew about?
Every year my mom and I host charity golf outing in memory of my dad, The Jim Jolly Memorial Golf Outing. It was started to raise money so my mom and best friend could run their first marathon to support The American Heart Association. Although this is a GREAT charity, my mom and I began talking about how much my dad used to help his neighbors. He was the first to help and the last to ask for help. We decided to change the recipients of money raised from large corporations to individual families. Each year we pick a new family that is struggling due to unforeseen circumstances and present them with a check with no strings attached. Over the last 14 years we've raised over $60,000 by playing golf and remembering my Dad.
If people want to golf or donate, they can contact me. But if not, I'd really love if people would look at their neighbors and make sure they are doing all they can to help them. I'm not sure who the original author was but I love the quote, “If you are more fortunate than others, it’s better to build a longer table than a taller fence.” I wish everyone would live by this!
You can have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what is it?
Carmex Classic Lip Balm. I have had my share of hospital visits, delivered three big babies, and many illnesses. Nothing is more painful or annoying than chapped lips. NOTHING.
If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?
Germany. When I was in 8th grade my family hosted a foreign exchange student for a year. Her name is Stefanie and we fought and fell in love like sisters. She still lives in Germany with her husband and daughter. I'd love to be able to spend more time with her and cuddle her baby girl!
If you could pick three famous people to be a part of your entourage, who would you pick?
Number one by far - Brian Dawkins. He is strong and motivational and faithful and could probably get me into the Eagles locker room to meet Carson! He also seems like a "no excuses" kind of guy who would knock me down a peg or two when I start getting "whoa is me" and begin to complain!
Number two - Ellen. Not sure this even needs an explanation because well... Ellen. I love that she is 100% comfortable in her own skin and is so hard working. Also - laughter and charity, what more could I ask for in life?
Number three - Kristin Bell. Again, had to pick her for the laughter and hopefully she'd bring Mila Kunis with her too because the three of us would probably be best friends forever.
Which skill would you love to learn?
Spanish. I am in awe of anyone who speaks more than one language. Most things I try come pretty easily to me but I have tried and failing to learn Spanish more than once. One of my favorite parts of teaching in Reading is listening to my students speak in English to me and turn right to a parent or sibling and switch to Spanish like it's no big deal. It is a HUGE deal and those who can speak more than one language should be so proud of their talent!
Keep shining, Danielle! 😎
