Dr. Yamil Sanchez Rivera, who began his career in education as a Reading School District teacher in 1995, has been named as the Assistant Superintendent of the school district.
The Reading School Board of Directors voted unanimously to hire Dr. Sanchez Rivera during the regular school board meeting on October 23, 2019.
Dr. Sanchez will fill the assistant superintendent position left vacant when Christopher Celmer resigned in August 2019. Mr. Celmer is now employed with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit and is serving as assistant superintendent in the Harrisburg School District.
Dr. Sanchez is an educator and life-long learner with more than 24 years of experience working with schools and non-profits. Most recently, he has served as Senior Vice President, Community Impact, at the United Way of Berks County since 2016.
Dr. Sanchez, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Villanova University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Kutztown University and a doctorate degree in education from Lehigh University.
