10th and Penn Elementary School Honors Parent Outreach Assistant

10th and Penn Elementary School honored the school’s parent outreach assistant, Mrs. Magda Castro. Parent Outreach Assistants (POAs) are full‐time bilingual Reading School District employees who are knowledgeable about the Reading community, the families the District  serves, and the Pennsylvania educational system. Their primary role is to engage families and help them get involved in the school district.

During the school’s Kindness Week, students and staff wanted to acknowledge the great things Mrs. Castro does for the school.

On Valentine’s day, they surprised her with lots of love. The students and staff pulled off a surprise assembly that included gifts from each class, a video, and a surprise appearance from her family. Mrs. Castro has worked in the district for 21 years. She has made an impact on many students and staff and continues to be a great role model.

“I was surprised. A few of the students said we have a surprise for you, but I didn’t think it was anything this special,” said Mrs. Castro. The expression on Mrs. Castro’s face when she walked into the assembly was full of shock, excitement, and appreciation. Overall, it was a heartwarming celebration that students and staff enjoyed. Thank you, Mrs. Castro, for embodying what it means to be a Red Knight!
