Parent-Teacher conferences serve as a fundamental tool for fostering family engagement in the Reading School District. These conferences offer teachers a dedicated time to share with parents/guardians valuable information about their students' academic progress, grades, attendance, and behavior. At the same time, parents/guardians are given the opportunity to ask questions, address concerns, and collaborate with teachers to support their child’s success. This two-way communication is essential for building strong partnerships between families and educators.
General Scheduling Practices
Conferences will be offered in the Fall and Winter.
Act 80 Days are used to schedule conferences on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during the week of Thanksgiving in November (“Fall Conferences”) and Thursday and Friday before Presidents’ Day in February (“Winter Conferences”).
Conferences must be scheduled for a minimum of 15 minutes. IEP meetings should not be scheduled during parent conferences unless an IEP is out of compliance.
While we prefer to meet in-person with parents during parent conferences, families will be afforded the flexibility to opt for a virtual or phone conference, if preferred. This will be allowed on a case by case basis and will not be advertised to all parents. Ideally, these virtual/phone conferences should be held during the allotted conference times. However, every effort should be made to accommodate the needs of families/guardians.
Whenever possible, schools should make an effort to schedule sibling conferences on the same date and within the same 1 hour time frame.
