Wacky Water Wednesday is back for the 7th season! Every Wednesday, through August 19, 2026, we will be opening fire hydrants throughout the city and turning them into mini-spray parks for kids to enjoy! Special shoutout to the Reading Area Water Authority for making this event possible!

Todos los miércoles, hasta el 19 de agosto de 2026, abriremos uno de los hidrantes para incendio en algún lugar de la ciudad y convertimos el espacio en pequeños parques de juegos acuáticos para que los niños se diviertan. ¡Agradecemos de manera especial a la Autoridad de Agua y Alcantarillados de Reading por hacer posible este evento!

Summer Meals will be served at all of the Elementary Schools (except 12th & Marion, Lauer’s Park, and 10th & Green), NEMS, NWMS, City Line and CMS from June 15-July 31, Mondays through Thursdays.

Breakfast will be available from 8:00am-9:00am and Lunch will be available from 11:30am-12:30pm. These sites will be open sites (any child aged 1-18 are welcome to attend – children do not need to be students enrolled in the Reading School District to participate at open sites).

Families are encouraged to enter through the main office and will be directed to the cafeteria or at the cafeteria entrance marked with a sign. During the summer, meals must be eaten in the cafeteria.

🖤🧡 Attention all 8th Grade parents and students...Our NEMS 2026 "Onward and Upward" Promotion Ceremony is this Thursday at 12:00 PM. The MAIN school doors will open at 11:30 AM. Reminders and tickets were distributed to all 8th Grade students last week. Each student was issued TWO tickets due to limited seating in the school auditorium. If you have any questions regarding tickets, please contact the office at 610.371. 5772. Administration is kindly asking you to refrain from bringing unnecessary items into the building such as large bags since everyone is required to pass through the scanners before entering the school. Also, due to the limited space we are asking that gift bags, stuffed animals, flowers balloons, etc. be left in your vehicle until after the ceremony. These items will not be permitted into the building by security. With over 200 graduates, 400+ family members, staff members, and students in attendance the auditorium can get a bit crowded. We understand that this is a very important day for our 8th Graders and their families and we would like to make this a pleasant experience for all involved. Thank you in advance for your understanding. We hope to see you on Thursday as we mark another milestone in your child's education! A cada alumno se le entregaron DOS entradas debido al aforo limitado del auditorio de la escuela. Si tiene alguna pregunta sobre las entradas, póngase en contacto con la oficina en el 610.371.5772. La administración le ruega que se abstenga de traer al edificio objetos innecesarios, como bolsos grandes, ya que todo el mundo debe pasar por los escáneres antes de entrar en la escuela. Please be sure to come out and support our amazing NEMS all-city music students tomorrow night at the Santander Performing Arts Center @ 6PM. The concert is open to the public and is free of charge. This will be a very special and memorable experience for our students. Northeast Middle School was victorious in two categories of the SWAG Design contest...special "shout out" to Mellicent and Miss Gina for their award winning contributions! A belated "shout out"...but still a "shout out" that is well-deserved...goes to Ms. Sherlene Evans and Nativity Lutheran Church and also to our NEMS school counselors for all their hard work in organizing and delivering Easter meals and food baskets to local families! The donated items helped feed over 100 people. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and/or contributed. Your hard work and love for our community did not go unnoticed! Un "reconocimiento" tardio...pero, aún así muy merecido... para la Sra. Sherlene Evans y la Iglesia Luterana Nativity, así como para nuestros orientadores escolares de NEMS, por todo su esfuerzo en la organización y entrega de comidas de Pascua y cestas de alimentos a las familias locales. Los productos donados permitieron alimentar a más de 100 personas. Ms. Sciumbata's 5th Grade students attempted another "escape room" in Social Studies class on Friday! 🙀 This time around, her students were "Water Rescue Explorers" attempting to save Sub-Saharan Africa from the water crisis in the Lake Chad region. Ms. Sciumbata had so many groups successfully complete the challenge and escape! 👏🏻 Check out the posted images to see the kids at work and who the top winners were. Well done, kids! 🏆 ¡Los alumnos de 5.º curso de la Sra. Sciumbata se enfrentaron a otra «sala de escape» en la clase de Ciencias Sociales el viernes! 🙀 En esta ocasión, sus alumnos se convirtieron en «Exploradores de rescate acuático» que intentaban salvar al África subsahariana de la crisis hídrica en la región del lago Chad. ¡La Sra.
